Terry Adkins (1953-2014), born in Washington, was a musician and multimedia artist exploring the lives of historical figures that he considers to be underappreciated producing sculptural works and assemblages that refer to their biographies. Adkins' work has been exhibited at museums worldwide, including the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York.
Mark Bradford, born in 1961 in Los Angeles, is best known for his large-scale abstract paintings that examine the class-, race-, and gender-based economies that structure urban society in the United States. Mark Bradford is currently representing the USA in the Venice Biennale with his project Tomorrow Is Another Day.
Tony Cragg, born in Liverpool in 1949 and living in Wuppertal, Germany since 1977, is one of the world’s foremost sculptors. Constantly pushing to find new relations between people and the material world, there is no limit to the materials he might use, as there are no limits to the ideas or forms he might conceive. MUDAM Luxembourg presents a solo exhibition of the works of Tony Cragg going until September 2017.
Ugo Rondinone, born in 1964, is a Swiss-born mixed-media artist living in New York. His work frequently employs the experiential qualities of the everyday, often reflecting on the boundaries between fiction and reality. In 2007, he represented Switzerland in the Venice Biennale. In October 2017, he will inaugurate the re-opening of Bass Museum in Miami after its long transformation.
Wolfgang Tillmans, born in 1968, is a German fine-art photographer. His diverse body of work is distinguished by observation of his surroundings and an ongoing investigation of the photographic medium’s foundations. Wolfgang Tillmans is on show at Tate Modern until June 11th. The Fondation Beyeler dedicates its major summer exhibition to his works.
