Wie bin ich nicht unglücklich

Zidoun Bossuyt Gallery Luxembourg is pleased to present Wie bin ich nicht unglücklich, curated by Thomas Zitzwitz.

In this group exhibition, new work by German-based artists Berta Fischer, Gregor Hildebrandt, Alicja Kwade, Isa Melsheimer, Marcel Odenbach, and Thomas Zitzwitz unite under Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s playful sentiment, which offers a reflection on the gesture of artmaking. In the famed poet and statesman’s ebullient estimation, art might well be the manifestation of a longing, a response to a vague irritation, an expression of either resignation or survival, or a subtle act of defiance that comes in the form of a knowing laugh at the reality of life.

Jean-Michel Basquiat Now ! Luxembourg

The Zidoun-Bossuyt Gallery will present an exhibition running for over one month of the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat which is unprecedented in Luxembourg. Featuring 20 original works by Jean- Michel Basquiat, most of which are being shown for the first time, this exhibition was made possible by the loans of these important pieces by Belgian, French and Luxemburgish collectors,. Each piece on display features a different period of this prolific artist’s career, from his first creations in the early 1980s up to his collaborations with Andy Warhol.
At this occasion a catalogue has been published and can be ordered at the price of 30 euros TTC (shipment costs excluded).

With this selection of new paintings and a series of steel sculptures rendered in monochromatic gold and silver, Tomokazu Matsuyama traces the canon of the history of Western art while filtering it through his idiosyncratic imagery, where the flatness of Eastern painting meets the bold vigor of American pop.

David Deroo - One Equals Infinity

One Equals Infinity, solo show of David Deroo
Opening reception : May 22nd, 2014 from 6pm in presence of the artist
Exhibition from May 23rd to July 19th, 2014

David Deroo draws inspiration from different environments throughout his journeys, notably metropolises such as New York, Bombay or Sydney. His architectural background undeniably influences his work. The analysis and the structure of major cities are in fact the base of his process.
"One Equals Infinity" aims to raise consciousness that the representation of a place is more than a simple image. The world itself is an accumulation of individualities which creates a unity. The reinterpretation of town plans with the use of phone books symbolizes this equation. Colours, light and texture of the works create individuality in a world where the normalization and the standardization are omnipresent. The titles of the works are the geographic coordinates of the described places.

Franck Brunner - Catharsis

Frank Brunner has recently worked on issues related to volatility, to break up and leave. In his new exhibition, changing phenomena such as light and time are central focus points, but also explosive moments experiences are processed and put into a larger framework of understanding.
Catharsis, from the Greek « katharsis » is the purification and purgation of emotions through art that results in renewal. In his last project, Brunner has, among other things, been inspired by a stay at En-Gedi, an oasis but also a kibbutz situated in Israel on the western shore of the Dead Sea, perhaps as a symbol of life, used as a central compositional element in the series "En- Gedi"

Preview on April 11th, 2013.
Exhibition from April 12th to June 1st, 2013.

The latest solo show by Mustafa Maluka entitled 'Structural Disbelief: an imposition', deals with the social and political structure of prejudice and the various ways, both subtle and overt, in which people are pre-judged and dismissed because of their appearance.

The show tackles the structural disbelief faced by successful, high achieving people who appear as 'others' within particular societies. It also explores fragments of dialogical transaction to which the characters in the paintings are subjected to as individuals who appear as ‘other’ within the societies that they live in.

Adam Parker Smith - Funny Business

CLASH - Solo Show de Tom Sanford

Shinique Smith - New Degree of Love
