PRESS RELEASE

Zidoun-Bossuyt Paris is delighted to present the first solo exhibition of French artist Gaultier Rimbault-Joffard, untitled Lumières, from March 27 to May 3, 2025.

Gaultier Rimbault-Joffard’s work revolves around an exploration of light, considered both in its spatial and temporal dimensions, as well as in its interaction with textures and their materiality. The artist develops three major series. The first and most recent, presented at the entrance of the exhibition, consists of pure gradients, where the weave gradually fades to reveal a diffuse glow. Confronted with these gradients, the work questions, through a minimal approach, what emerges when matter is stripped away, revealing what lies beneath the textures. These canvases evolve depending on their location, the time of day, and variations in light, offering a sense of serenity.

Opposite, a series entitled Textures and Geometries proposes a different dynamic: here, vibrant weaves play with light and perception. The pictorial gesture, executed with a tool designed by the artist, superimposes textures and transforms the surface into a field of sensory exploration.

The exhibition also features a sculptural table, designed in painted and carved MDF according to a pattern that follows the trajectory of light emanating from a central flame. This piece echoes the artist’s reflection on materiality and light.

Further along, the works Green Variations on Red and Red Variations on Green, arranged in negative, explore a dissociation between the foreground and background, thus altering the perception of the composition.

Finally, in the last room, brass and mirror pieces establish a dialogue where reflections and light play modify their perception according to the viewer’s point of view. Sometimes dark and marked by relief, sometimes luminous under the effect of polished brass, these works oscillate between opacity and brilliance, depth and illusion. A buffet in composite material and brushed steel, recently designed by the artist, accompanies this ensemble, extending his work on the interactions between surface, light, and matter.

Gaultier Rimbault-Joffard’s work finds its essence in materiality, exploring the subtle dialogue between color, matter, and light. Through a balance between these elements, the artist shapes a work where perception constantly evolves, inviting contemplation and reflection.
