Far Rockaway Library | José Parlà

Zidoun-Bossuyt Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of the new Far Rockaway Library, Queens, NY, wrapped by a mural artwork by Brooklyn-based contemporary artist José Parlà.

The Grand Opening of the new Far Rockaway Library, at 1637 Central Avenue, will take place on Tuesday, July 30, from 11:30am on!

The mural wrapping this library is called Style Writing (2022) and was created by the artist José Parlá. This artwork transforms architecture into a form of sculptural painting. Initially an ink-on-paper drawing, the digitized and supersized work is made of continuous writing forms using words depicting daily life in the city. Although the sentences are in a primarily indecipherable code, the words become a statement that carries a story that can become personal to the viewer. Through the reflections of the glass facade, the viewer becomes part of the artwork experience and, therefore, part of the ephemeral and immersive qualities of the building. Through Style Writing, looking and searching for meaning becomes an exploration of the complex relationships between perception and understanding.
